About Me

Welcome to the world of Things Helen Loves, where I write about life outdoors, history and travel.

I'm passionate about exploring the world through its history and finding quirky or historic places to stay. Most of all, I love sharing my finds here; I hope I can provide inspiration for others to do the same!

I'm endlessly inspired by the countryside, woodlands and nature. I'm happiest outdoors with my Belgian Shepherd at my heels.

I've gone forest bathing in Wiltshire, slept in medieval churches, drunk coffee in a Dutch windmill and explored an abandoned hospital in Germany. I don't know where I'm going next, but I'd love you to come along.

Did you know that the 20-28 May is War Graves Week?
May is the month of Hawthorn blossom, the hedgerows are exploding with tiny blooms of white and pink.
It’s a bit dull here in Wiltshire this morning, so sharing a shot from last nights walk and hoping today will brighten as it goes.
Wassenaar, Holland. Technically part of The Hague, but you’d never guess. There’s a lovely small town feel here.
Love this time of year, everything is so fresh and green. Well, the countryside is. The Wolf is filthy and absolutely not fresh, so he has an appointment with the B-A-T-H. Wish me luck 😬
Day dreaming about spending Sundays pottering about in a place like this. I’d have that stable door open, something comforting cooking and the fire all laid ready for lighting later.
Friday ✔️
I love a good old fashioned English village and oh have I found a good one 😊 Stockton in Wiltshire; an absolute beauty with its thatched cottages, pretty country church and the ‘Big House’ a.k.a Stockton House presiding over it all. Bonus points for sunshine, miles of bunting and very friendly folk.
Beautiful day to be out in it 😊
I’ve a bit of a thing for old carousels. When I have a forever house, I’d love to restore an old horse as a decorative piece.
