About Me

Welcome to the world of Things Helen Loves, where I write about life outdoors, history and travel.

I'm passionate about exploring the world through its history and finding quirky or historic places to stay.

Expect inspiration for ways to enjoy time outdoors, UK breaks and European adventures.

I've gone forest bathing in Wiltshire, slept in medieval churches, drunk coffee in a Dutch windmill and explored an abandoned hospital in Germany. I don't know where I'm going next, but I'd love you to come along.

More than that, I hope to inspire you to go out and have your own adventures.

Awful weather in this corner of Wiltshire today. Would be the perfect day to be listening to the radio, curled up by the fire in this beautiful room. Christmas decor and the lovely historic interior at @redlionhotelsalisbury; what a combination 😍 Loved the carved and painted details of the old fireplace. There are little historical gems everywhere here. Historic houses and seasonal decorating always make for a fabulous combination, don’t they? Spotted this lovely wreath on the gates of Avebury Manor. There is so much joy in shopping from small businesses and independent creators. I bought these beautiful cards from German artist @studiosatsch and as well as being absolutely gorgeous, they came with a lot of love from her studio to my home. There’s something magical about a walled garden, isn’t there? There’s an exciting world behind those gates, several worlds actually. So much and so many to honour, but after making a visit to the Battle of Britain memorial in Kent so recently, today I wanted to honour The Few. Walking into a new week with my little wolfy friend, time outdoors is the best way to start any day. Autumn walks through woodland and fields are such a pleasure. Isn’t the English countryside glorious at this time if year?
