    About Me

Welcome to the world of Things Helen Loves, where I write about life outdoors, history and travel.

I'm passionate about exploring the world through its history and finding quirky or historic places to stay.

Expect inspiration for ways to enjoy time outdoors, UK breaks and European adventures.

I've gone forest bathing in Wiltshire, slept in medieval churches, drunk coffee in a Dutch windmill and explored an abandoned hospital in Germany. I don't know where I'm going next, but I'd love you to come along.

More than that, I hope to inspire you to go out and have your own adventures.

Hôtel de Ville / City Hall, Calais. Postcards from Calais beach / Plage de Calais A few close up shots of my new French friend. Some people go to the club on holiday… I go looking for dragons to make friends with 🐉 I'm interrupting my current run of English country & coastal posts with a bit of Hamburg news. More exploring in Kent: a woodland walk but make it pine From a country cottage yesterday to English coastal elegance today. I love this street on the esplanade in Dover, it's got real vintage charm. There's something wonderful about an English cottage garden, isn't there? This pic is actually from a few summers back, this year hasn't been kind to gardeners. Sunny day postcards from Hastings ☀️ Wandered round Stade to see the old wooden net huts, popped into the Fishermans museum and then took the cliff lift up to the country park.
Love discovering new places and exploring? Join me for travel inspiration & lovely walks from England and beyond.
