About this Hotel…
Tylney Hall Hotel is a Grade II listed luxury country house hotel in Hook, Hampshire. The hotel enjoys a prime location in 66 acres of historic gardens and a beautiful interior full of original features.

Tylney Hall promises guests an experience of, ‘ Elegance and gracious living’. The approach through Hampshire countryside and up the tree lined drive certainly feels like an escape from modern life.
Location, Location, Location
Just 46 miles from Central London and a short drive from nearby Basingstoke, Tylney Hall is well located for visitors to benefit from good transport links and some wonderful local attractions.
The luxury heritage feel and location within acres of restored gardens and rolling parkland give it a deep-in-the-countryside atmosphere.
First Impressions
Quiet luxury and a feeling of having found a wonderful country house escape.

Your first glimpse at the red brick mansion is revealed as you make your way up the tree lined drive. The grounds and the house are equally beautiful, giving classic English country estate views.
The scene as you step into the hotel is warm country house welcome; sweeping staircase, gorgeous fireplace, wood panelling, imposing portraits. With the house having many grand fireplaces, there was also a lovely whiff of woodsmoke.
Is there a more welcoming scent on a winter afternoon?

The check in at Tylney Hall Hotel was warm and welcoming and told us everything we needed to know, main points of interest being the spa, bar and breakfast.
Armed with that information and directions to our courtyard room, we were ready to relax.
Tylney Hall Hotel: The Room
Pretty, spacious and thoughtfully designed.
We booked a Deluxe Double Courtyard room, located close to the spa facilities. As the name suggests, these rooms are grouped around a small courtyard with outdoor seating and fountain.

Tastefully decorated in keeping with the style of the hotel, the cosy room included a comfortable lounge area with armchairs and a coffee table. The well stocked hospitality tray included a Nespresso coffee machine and shortbread biscuits.

The luxurious en suite with a deep tub and shower was transformed from a bathroom to an experience by piles of fluffy white towels and Molton Brown toiletries. Bliss.
Tylney Hall Hotel: A Country House Experience
A country house dream, the whole place is beautiful.

The jewel in the crown has to be The Italian Lounge. The splendidly restored period room boasts garden views and gorgeous fireplaces but it doesn’t end there. The rooms crowning glory is a spectacular ceiling, imported from a Venetian palace and installed piece by piece.
The old library has become a cosy, book lined retreat and is now home to the bar and a fabulous cocktail menu.

Breakfast was taken in one of the hotel dining rooms with views across the terrace and lawn. Guests can choose from a cooked-to-order menu and a continental selection.
A lovely breakfast at a beautifully laid table made for the perfect way to start the day. I enjoyed lingering over morning coffee and enjoying the views across the grounds.

Tylney Hall Hotel Spa & Wellness
Tylney Hall guests have access to a heated indoor swimming pool, whirl pool, sauna and gym. Guests visiting in the summer months can also make use of the beautiful outdoor pool.
The spa facilities are adequate but if you want a full spa day experience then this probably isn’t the hotel for you. A slight quirk in the sauna set up; each changing room has a small sauna located within it.
This means either couples sauna separately, or one has to pop into the other changing room. I’m not shy and it wasn’t bust so it didn’t bother me but I did find it a strange set up!

There is a range of beauty treatments available including massages, facials and manicures. On a short break, we didn’t indulge but did enjoy using the wellness facilities after a walk around the grounds.

Tylney Hall Gardens
Grade II listed Tylney Hall is sat within 66 acres of gardens and parkland that are an attraction in their own right. There are formal gardens and kitchen gardens, rolling lawns and wilder parkland.

The Water Gardens, designed by influential 19th-century garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, are made up of a series of pools and waterfalls with a fairytale feel. You might even spot fairy or troll in the greenery, part of a Tylney Trolls Trail for young guests.
A wander round the grounds opens up a world of water features, formal Italian and Dutch style gardens and views across the parkland.

The current gardens are the result of an extensive restoration project by a team of dedicated gardeners. As well as a beautiful estate, the restoration has created a haven for wildlife; we spotted Muntjac deer, pheasants and song birds galore.
Tylney Hall Hotel is a Royal Horticultural Society partner garden. RHS members can visit for free and bring a non-member guest for £5.

Tylney Hall Hotel can be viewed and booked here.
I’d highly recommend booking a stay to experience Tylney Hall Hotel in full, but it is also possible to visit the gardens or book an afternoon tea without being an overnight guest.

Looks fabulous, especially that lounge. A perfect retreat, Helen.
It was a lovely treat, I was 😍 over that ceiling
Oh heavens, this is triggering!! My law firm had several conferences here in the 90s and 00s and shall we say some of the behaviour left a fair bit to be desired. I’m cringing with embarrassment as I write this, since I was one of the few, maybe the only teetotal partner and therefore able to vividly recall some of the excruciating events. It was beautiful then, they looked after us and we let the side down. I have a vague memory that we may not have been barred exactly, but not encouraged to return for a while….
Oh my goodness, that is so funny! I think all will be forgiven now. Time for a return visit- on best behaviour, of course!
Maybe. I hope they didn’t keep my name!!
I think I’d want to explore each and every one of those 66 acres. Gorgeous area and facilities. The repurposed library looks and sounds very inviting, and I’d definitely spend a fair amount of time taking in that Italian Lounge. Wonderful locale, Helen!
Thank you Bruce, I need to pencil in a return visit to see those gardens in bloom. I was very inspired by the garden features, think my poor husband was wondering how long a jobs list this inspiration would create for him!
Well. Who knew? We used to live in Portsmouth, and I’ve never been here. Perhaps it wasn’t open in the 1970s?
I believe it was a residential school then Margaret, so a visit wouldn’t have been so relaxing! It’s a beautiful place, worth checking out (or in?) if your ever this far south.
We’ll remember that – thanks.
Lovely Helen. I hadn’t heard of Tylney Hall before.
Nor me Marion, and I thought I knew the area quite well! I’m glad I found it though, it was a lovely stay.
I love Tylney Hall’s landscaped gardens as they are picturesque and create the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll. Not only this is an amazing place to escape the city life to unwind, but also would be the perfect wedding venue to exchange vows and say “I do”. Thanks for the tour 🙂 Aiva xx
Thanks Aiva, funnily enough they were holding a wedding fayre the day after we left and I was looking at some of the things they were setting up. It was beautiful!
🥰🥰🥰
What a grand place to stay, it looks lovely.
It was a much needed break and I loved it.
Well, you know me, I’d end up in the library. And it’s a bar, you say? Bingo!
With a lovely little gin menu aswell. They know what they’re doing!
Looking beautiful place for tour well shared 👌
Thank you ☺️
