If you’re planning a trip to the Northern Irish capital, a visit to the Titanic Belfast is a must. More than just a museum, this is one of Belfast’s most unique and authentic experiences. After all: think Titanic, think Belfast.

Standing proudly on the site where the Titanic was built, this award winning immersive experience isn’t your typical museum. It brings the story of the Titanic to life.
Discover everything you need to know to plan the perfect visit with my Titanic Experience Belfast guide.
What to Expect at Titanic Belfast
The story of the Titanic ended in disaster, but it began in Belfast in the famous Harland & Wolff shipyard.
The Titanic Belfast self guided tour takes visitors through a series of interactive galleries, telling the story of the Titanic from the streets of booming 1900’s Belfast through to the aftermath of the sinking.

Using a unique blend of museum-style story telling and multi-sensory experiences, each gallery wraps you in the sights, sounds, smells and sensations of the Titanic story.
Parts of the ship, including some of the beautiful passenger cabins, have been meticulously recreated to give visitors a feel for life on board.

A highlight of the tour is the Shipyard ride, an immersive motion ride transports visitors through the sights and sounds of a Belfast shipyard.
The Shipyard ride at the Titanic Experience Belfast is fully accessible and staff are on hand to assist. If you’d rather bypass the ride, there is an alternative tour route and loads of information about the shipyard in the other galleries.

The exhibition is also home to many items recovered from the wreckage of the Titanic, including a lifejacket and an original wooden sun lounger with the White Star Line logo. Seeing them is a poignant experience.
Titanic Belfast: The Building, Slipways & Plaza
Titanic Belfast is built on the site of the historic H & W shipyard, at the head of the slipways that launched ships Titanic and Olympic. The surrounding plaza is full of features that honour the history.
- Walk down the slipway where Titanic was built and see the life size plan of the promenade deck marked out in white stone, including the life boat and funnel positions.
- Visit the Memorial garden on the Olympic slipway and find the names of the dead set into vertical glass panels, including those of workmen who died building the Titanic.
- Follow the wooden benches that encircle the Titanic Experience building. The blockish benches, followed clockwise, spell out the distress message sent by Titanic after she hit the iceberg.

The Plaza, slipways and atrium of the Titanic building are always free to visit with or without a tour ticket.
If you’d like to learn more about the slipways and Titanic story, you can book the Discovery Tour, a guided walk exploring the secrets and symbolism of the slipways for £15 adult/ £10 child.
SS Nomadic Tour: Included with your Titanic Belfast ticket. Don’t Skip This Bit!
Included in the Titanic Belfast ticket is a tour of the nearby SS Nomadic. Some people skip this part of the experience. Don’t do that- Nomadic is beautiful and to miss her is to miss out!
Famous for being tender to RMS Titanic and the last remaining White Star Line ship in the world, Nomadic has a pretty interesting back story of her own including active service in both world wars.
She’s also welcomed aboard some famous folk over the years, including Marie Curie and Elizabeth Taylor.

SS Nomadic is a unique piece of maritime history and beautiful ship full of classic White Star Line design details. Allow about an hour to visit.

The Titanic Belfast: Timings, tickets & prices
This is where it can get a little confusing; lots of options, but let’s break it down!
First of all, opening times. The Titanic Experience operates seasonal opening hours, you can check current opening times here. Last entry is 1hour 40 minutes before closing time, but I’d advise giving yourself more time than that. Tickets give you a timed entry slot
Standard tickets for the Titanic Experience and Nomadic cost £24.95 adult/ £11.00 child if booked in advance. Walk up tickets available but are more expensive and depend on availability.

If you’re a morning bird you can take advantage of an early rise ticket which gives discounted entry for admission between 8.30 and 9.50am. Find details here.
If you want to make a full day of it, you might look at the White Star Premium Pass, a combination ticket including the outdoors Discovery Tour, Nomadic plus some extra gifts and discounts.
My Tips for visiting Titanic Belfast
Book your ticket online, ahead of time: This experience gets very busy, especially on the days the cruise ships are in. Booking ahead will save you money, save you queuing and ensure a smooth start to your visit.
Proximity to Belfast City Airport: The Titanic Experience is just a short drive from Belfast City Airport, and with a taxi rank located just outside makes this a great last-day option if you’ve a late afternoon/evening flight.
Luggage Storage: Find this located on the lower levels of the atrium, with lockers ranging in size from suitcase to handbag. Small fee applies, pay by card.
The Andrews Gallery: The Andrews Gallery is a free-to-visit gallery within the Titanic Experience that hosts various art inspired exhibitions, usually including an immersive aspect. The current exhibition is Lucian Freud’s Etchings: A Creative Collaboration in collaboration with the V& A museum.
It’s always worth checking what’s on!

Titanic Experience Belfast: Is it worth visiting?
Yes. Definitely.
I get it when people aren’t sure; it’s quite an expensive attraction and honestly, from the outside looking in, it can be hard to see what it’s all about. I lived in Belfast for a year before I booked tickets.
I promise, it’s an amazing and authentic experience. Recommended from personal experience.
Titanic has something for everyone; history buffs can fill their boots, there’s loads of interactive exhibits for kids, and lovers of beautiful things can admire the recreated cabins and explore the creative process behind the, ‘Golden Age of Ocean Travel’.

To extend your Titanic Experience, you can also call into the neighbouring Titanic Hotel. Located in the former head offices of Harland & Wolff, the four star hotel has a free heritage and arts trail and a beautiful lounge-bar. Visit before midday to take advantage of the ‘Morning Treats’ menu.
It’s the most beautiful cream tea in Belfast, find all the details and my full guide here.

Helen x
An excellent guide to the Titanic Experience Helen. It’s five years since we were there so I’m already thinking of a return to Belfast!
Helen! It sounds like such a unique and immersive experience, way more than your average museum. The shipyard ride and that Titanic Hotel cream tea both sound amazing
This is such a wonderful post about my favourite museum. I was there in May and loved to explore the sights, sounds, smells and stories of RMS Titanic, from the triumph of her construction to the tragedy of her maiden voyage. It was my first time after a multi-million pound refurbishment, and I have to say that the way the museum recreates the sinking of the Titanic with sound and visual effects, including radio conversations between the ship and nearby vessels, creates a realistic and emotional experience. I loved the new 7.6m scale model of the ship, original artefacts like a deckchair, lifejacket, and a musician’s violin, and a new “Pursuit of Dreams” theme. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
A sad part of history but so very interesting.
It was a very moving experience, lots of sadness but lots of stories of survival and courage too. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, appreciate it!
A thorough guide to what sounds like a must-visit museum! I do like it when a museum puts this much effort into bringing history to life 🙂 We recently went to a VR Titanic experience in London that reawakened my interest in the story of what happened, so maybe we should put Belfast on our future city breaks list
VR experience sounds fun!
It was!
I wasn’t at all sure till I read your ‘Is it worth it?’ notes. I was worried it might be super-commercialised but it seems not. You’re gettig Belfast much higher on our Must Visit list!
It’s an interesting city. I can definitely see why people have reservations about the Titanic Experience but I’d genuinely recommend it.
👍
Another on for next time!
I think you’d enjoy it Anabel, hope you make it back to Belfast.
Looks amazing. If I ever get to Belfast it will be on my list definitely. X
It looks so good, I would absolutely love to visit!
It’s a great experience, tells you a lot about Belfast as well as the Titanic story.
The building hosting the museum is quite impressive. It looks very interesting.
It’s very distinctive, definitely has created a real focal point for the old shipyard area. Sorry for the late reply, think I missed this comment. Appreciate you coming along!
