If you’re planning a trip to Liverpool, a Beatles Tour is an absolute must.

There are plenty of tours that will ferry you around the many Beatles related locations in the city. But if you really want to fall into The Beatles story and the culture of city that raised them, you’re going to need a good story teller to guide you.

Step forward, Liverpool City Sights.

I spent an afternoon enjoying the City & Beatles Tour and it felt like more than sight seeing. It felt like being introduced to Liverpool by friends who just happen to know a whole lot about this vibrant city and its musical heritage.

The City & Beatles Tour ( Blue Route) with Liverpool City Sights

Let’s start with the focus of the tour: The Beatles.

The Beatles were proud of their roots and wrote lots of Liverpool locations into their music, including the iconic Penny Lane and Strawberry Field, both of which are included as photo stops on the tour.

As well as pointing out Beatles related locations across the city including places the Fab Four lived and played, the Beatles Tour is full of intriguing facts and funny stories. I’m not going to give too much away, but do you know…

  • The connection between the Beatles and a good old plate of beans-on-toast?
  • Which Beatle made a substantial donation to the restoration fund for the Sefton Park Palm House; and why?
  • That the story- like lyrics to ‘Penny Lane’ depict real life characters and locations which can explored along the real street that inspired the lyrics?

The Beatles Tour doesn’t stop at every point of interest , but does include photo opportunities at Penny Lane, Strawberry Field and the childhood home of Paul McCartney . Chris, our tour guide, was fantastic at getting everyone involved at the stops and helping us all create great memories and great photographs. A tour highlight!

Speaking of lyrics, music is part of the experience. Expect to hear a few Beatles numbers as you go. You don’t have to sing along, but it’s hard to resist!

Our tour also featured some live music, with tour guide Chris breaking out the banjo.

More Than Just a Beatles Tour

Hearing the backstory of The Beatles brought to life is great fun, but it’s not all this tour is about. The Beatles Tour includes lots of intriguing information and historical facts about the city of Liverpool.

From streets that were reclaimed from the docks to the city cathedrals and the history of the many Liverpool parks, you’ll leave with a whole new view of the city.

The Tour Guides

I couldn’t review this tour without giving the wonderful guide and driver, both called Chris.

They made us feel so welcome from the moment we stepped on board and both had that famous Liverpudlian charm, delivering the tour with a mix of stories, facts and anecdotes that had us feel like a Liverpool locals for the day.

These tours are run by a local company and delivered by a team who take real pride in their city and it shines through.

Is The Liverpool City Sights Beatles Tour Worth it?

Absolutely, yes!

The tour was fun, friendly and never felt rushed or scripted. It’s a convenient way to make the most of your time in the city, but it’s not just about ticking off the locations; it’s a way to experience Liverpool.

Whether you’re a lifelong Beatles fan or just curious about Liverpool’s musical history, the Beatles Tour is a great way to soak it all in.

  1. It looks like a true Beatles experience is up for grabs at every single turn you take in the city. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day 🙂 Aiva xx

It was a fantastic blend of Liverpool love and Beatles background. Thanks for dropping by Aiva!

  2. I must be a real kill-joy. I love Liverpool (and the Beatles – I’m just the right generation), but I do get weary of the way that the Beatles are woven into everything that anyone ever tells you about the city. Other noted figures are available! Which is not to say that your post isn’t fun, and it sells the tour well.

They are quite inescapable in Liverpool, best just to join in Margaret! The tour was great fun, lots of Beatles background but a lot of Liverpool history too. Next post is Liverpool also, but not a Beatle in sight.

  3. This sounds very like the Magical Mystery tour we did in Liverpool a few years ago – I guess several companies run similar ones. But your guide does sound particularly good! I’m helping the organiser of next year’s Virtual Tourist meet which will be in Liverpool so I’ll point him towards this alternative.

By the way, your link to the Liver Building post doesn’t work, although I found it via the ‘related posts’ section.

  4. As a Beatles fanatic, my own trip doing Liverpool’s Fab Four sights stands as one of my all-time favourite travel memories. It was interesting to read about your experience with Liverpool City Sights, I did mine via a private taxi tour with Ian Doyle’s “Mad Day Out”. When you get a guide who really knows his stuff, it makes all the difference.

  5. Sounds really interesting Helen. I’ve been to the Beatles Museum but not taken one of these tours and visited their old haunts

I had an eye on the Beatles Museum but we just timed out. It was fun exploring the places that the Beatles enjoyed, especially as so many are referenced in the songs.

It was a great tour, good atmosphere and lots of laughs. And now I have a teenage boy who’s enjoying discovering music of the Beatles.

  7. I think this tour has to be on every bucket list of every Beatles lover, Helen. Liverpool definitely embraces its history with the band, and this tour is an expression of that affection.
